Reuben K Byrd uses more than 25 years of shipyard management experience in his current role as Chief Operating Officer of Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited. In addition to managing the company’s finances, technical projects, and productivity levels, Reuben K Byrd also amended the Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBS) apprenticeship program.
GBS apprentices recently contributed to the Grand Bahama community when they helped build a new playground for children with special needs at the Beacon School. Partnering with other local organizations and companies, GBS and its apprentices facilitated new slides, a swing set, and bocce and basketball courts. The company’s apprentices were specifically responsible for tasks like assembling the equipment and laying sod for the newly opened, wheelchair accessible playground.
The CEO of GBS attended the playground opening ceremony and reflected, “It was wonderful to see the children enjoying this phenomenal playground. It also gives me immense pleasure to see our apprentices and our own management pitching in to help make this a reality.”
